They sometimes nests in isolated pairs, usually in colonies, often mixed with other wading birds. In mixed colonies, Great Egrets tend to nest high. Usually in trees 10' to 40' above ground, sometimes up to 90' high in tall cypress. Usually laying between 3 to 4 eggs. Not all young that hatch survive nesting. So when they do survive it’s a joyous occasion.
