Barbara Fallenbaum's Original Oil Painting of a Stilt Mom comforting her babies.
Black-necked Stilts are among the most stately of the shorebirds, from the long rose-pink legs, to the long thin black bill, to striking black-and-white plumage. It has a beautifully delicate silhouette with its incredibly thin stilt-legs and its slim wings. It is simply elegant yet it manages to thrive in harsh terrain. Nests on bare ground preferable a slight rise surrounded by water. This one was spotted down on its proverbial knees caring for its young.
