They are beautiful birds that seem conscious of their own beauty and like to show off its charms. Short stature at only about two feet tall and striking golden feet. They are highly social all year long, foraging and nesting with other shorebirds. They are a species of high concern because they were hunted to near extinction in the late nineteenth century for their long breeding plumage. Saw this little one strutting down the beach one day. You can tell it is enjoying life.
