Barbara Fallenbaum's Original Oil Painting of a Roseate Spoonbill fledgling getting ready to leave the nest, but must learn to fly first.
A fledgling is a young bird that has grown enough to acquire its flight feathers and is preparing to leave the nest and care for itself. They are capable of flying but are clumsy at it. In this case the landing was good but our Roseate was not too sure about it. A Roseate Spoonbill fledgling is still fairly light in color and has not lost all of it feathers on their head.
